Welcome to Dona Queijada, a charming café nestled in the heart of Montemor-o-Novo at R. do Poço do Paço 16. This delightful spot shines as a true oasis for lovers of traditional Portuguese pastries and coffee. The intimate atmosphere resonates with the warm sounds of laughter and the comforting aroma of freshly baked goods, inviting you to step inside and indulge your senses.

Dona Queijada specializes in the beloved queijadas, delightful cheese tarts that have won acclaim from both locals and visitors. These pastries, particularly the Queijadas de Requeijão, are a testament to the skill of their baker, D. São, who has mastered the art of creating these exquisite treats. Customers rave about the unbelievable taste, with Erin Giblin aptly noting that they are "the best in the world." Coupled with a cup of expertly brewed coffee, a visit here feels like a sweet escape into a haven of flavor.

The café's environment is typically Portuguese; it embodies simplicity and charm, creating a welcoming atmosphere for anyone seeking a peaceful spot to enjoy a light bite. As Fernando Simões beautifully put it, it’s a place where “the café is very good” and where the ambiance enhances your enjoyment of the incredible queijadas.

Not only is the food exceptional, but the friendly service also adds to the experience. With staff described as warm and engaging, like Brigitte Barrois noted, customers feel at home in this sweet little café, complemented by cleanliness and attention to detail.

While some may find the café modest in size, the warm hospitality and incredible offerings more than make up for it. Liam O'Mahony aptly noted the top-notch food quality and friendliness. Despite being in a side street, the experience at Dona Queijada is worth every step taken to find it.

This cozy café merges culinary craftsmanship with genuine Portuguese hospitality, making it a must-visit on any tour through Montemor-o-Novo. Whether you're a local looking for a new favorite spot or a visitor eager to sample traditional flavors, Dona Queijada promises a delightful and unforgettable experience.

This is a must visit! The queijadas here are the best in the world. Two lattes and two cakes were less than €5. Incredible!

For friendliness and food quality 5* but as it's a small plain cafe in a side street (no view): I guess I must, reluctantly deduct one *.

Easily the best whey cheese pastries in the region, and possibly the best in the whole country - more than worth making a detour for. Queijadas are a typical Portuguese pastry made with whey cheese and a thin and slightly hard outer crust, which can be thought of as the lovechild between a custard tart and a Basque cheesecake. The interior can range from the deep yellow of a rich, yolky custard with the slightest hint of whey to a light and airy cheese cake. Some versions, such as the highly renowned Sintra variety, call for liberal amounts of cinnamon to be added to the indulgent egg yolk custard. The ones Dona Queijada specialises in are closer to a cakey cheesecake rather than the heavy and almost cloying versions heavy on egg yolks (and cinnamon). They are more like a less creamy and more pillowy version of a Basque cheesecake; more reliant on the whey cheese and lighter on the yolks, which allows for a vastly more pleasant and less gooey interior. It is less rich and indulgent, and for that reason more pleasurable to eat, with the only downside that you will find it hard not to eat several in one sitting. Personal preference will dictate which variety will please you most, but for my money these pastries shine the most the less they resemble a custard tart; the whey cheese is less prominent and can become something of a distraction from a yolk-rich pastry. These on the other hand elevate the curd by turning it into more of a bite sized piece of delicious, pillowy cheese based cake.

A must-go, for the queijadas and for the chicken empadas. No frills, good prices, very nice staff. Don't expect anything but Portuguese to be spoken.

Passagem por Montemor foi ao acaso que conhecemos a Dona Queijada. Receita antiga de família ..... foi uma grande surpresa a textura da massa e um recheio de requeijão muito bom. Os anfitriãos são muito simpáticos. Recomendo a visita.
